TSA OPENS TURKISH CINEMA UP TO THE WORLD

Monday, May 1, 2017

Having created database entries as a result of a meticulous study of all available written, visual, and auditory materials on Turkish cinema dating back to the days of the Ottoman Empire, with its English language option the Center for Turkish Cinema Studies (TSA) aims to increase Turkish cinema’s international recognition. Carried out by The Foundation for Sciences and Arts with the support of the Turkish Prime Ministry’s Promotion Fund and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s General Directorate of Cinema, the project’s English version will launch on May 1, 2017, at tsa.org.tr.

The site, which was launched three years ago under the partnership between The Foundation for Sciences and Arts (BİSAV) and Istanbul Şehir University, with support from Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), offers users the opportunity to access all the information, documents, and materials available on Turkish cinema from a single source. With its English language option, TSA aims to contribute to the global awareness of Turkish cinema.

Bringing together a comprehensive archive of database entries, synopses, tags, and location information with access to director, actor, and crew biographies and a large visual archive on films and individuals in the industry, TSA also attracts the attention of researchers with its extensive pool of articles. Besides entries on films, people, books, articles, and theses, the website’s English version will also include Turkish cinema’s latest news, box office results, gross figures, original articles, and interviews. Plus, film lovers and researchers from all over the world will be able to access original content on various subject areas, such as Ottoman era films, Turkish fantasy films, Turkish horror films, and documentary films.
