Polonya'nın ünlü Ortadoğu uzmanlarından Polonya İlimler Akademisi (Polish Academy of Sciences) ve Jagiellonian Üniversitesi Uluslararası ve Siyasal Çalışmalar Fakültesi Ortadoğu ve Uzak Doğu Bölümü öğretim üyesi Prof. Jerzy Zdanowski ile Avrupa'daki "Doğu" algısı üzerine konuşacağız.
Jerzy ZDANOWSKI (Ph. D.), Professor in Middle East Studies, historian and Arabists, teaches at the Department of Middle and Far East Studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies (Jagiellonian University), at Cracow College, the Main School of Economics (Warsaw), Warsaw University. Director of the Centre for Studies on Non-European Countries (Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw). Ph.D. and Habilitation in history at the Institute of International Relations (Moscow) and the Institute of History (Polish Academy of Sciences). Focused the modern history of the Middle East, Islam, international relations in the Middle East, developmental problems of the Arab World). Visiting scholar at various universities, including Kuwait University, University of Jordan, Cairo University, Princeton University (Senior Fulbright Scholar, seminar of Professor A. Udovitz), SOAS (seminar of Professor H. Norris), La Maison Mediterranéenne des Sciences de l’Homme in Aix-en-Provence (”haut niveau” fellowship of the French Government), University. Participated in several international projects, including Individual and Society in the Mediterranean Muslim World program sponsored by the European Science Foundation. Member of the Committee for Oriental Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and professional association such as The Middle East Association of the North America. Published various articles and 10 books on the Middle East, including Muslim Brothers (Szczecin, 1986), The Wahhabi Emirates. A History of Arabia in 1743-1932 (Warszawa, 1992), Saudi Arabia (Warszawa, 2004), A History of the Eastern Arabia (Wroclaw, 2004, second edition in 2008). Books forthcoming: Slavery in the Persian Gulf in the First Half of the 20th Century (in English, Warszawa, 2008), Modern Socio-Economic Muslim Thought. The Muslim Brothers (Warszawa, 2009), A History of the Middle East in the 20th Century (Wroclaw, 2010). Chosen lectures: „Slavery in the Persian Gulf in the 20th c.”, Zentrum Moderner Orient, Berlin (2008), “New Islamists and Globalization”, Institut des Relations Internationales, Casablanka (2008), „The Manumission Movement in the Persian Gulf between 1925-1950”, Department of Near Eastern Studies, Princeton University (Brown Bag Lunch Seminar, 2008), ”Islam and the Cultural Encounter between the Middle East and Europe in the Early Modern Times”, Trinity College, Dublin University (2007).
